Doubt raised over future of influential Milan ace ahead of summer

AC Milan could reportedly consider a significant offer for Mike Maignan this summer, should one arrive for the Rossoneri goalkeeper.

The 28-year-old joined us from Lille in July 2021 and filled an important void following the departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma, while the French international has since gone on to make 110 appearances for the club.

Maignan was a fundamental presence between the posts in our Serie A title-winning campaign in 2021/22, but injuries have been an issue for the Milan shot-stopper over the past two seasons.

According to Sky Sport Italia, that is a factor in the possibility that Milan will consider any significant offer for the Frenchman this summer. The report adds that no progress has been made in contract renewal negotiations as of yet, with his current deal expiring in 2026.

Further, it explicitly adds that Milan would seriously consider a ‘great offer’, with Maignan missing 39 games out of 147 due to injury, thus raising doubts over his reliability and consistency moving forward.

It would certainly be a shame to see Maignan leave given what he has contributed since he was signed, and he remains a quality option between the posts who is experienced and a leader amongst the current group.

However, if there is a significant profit to be made, a high-level replacement in mind, it seems as though the Milan management may well consider moving him on this summer, which could be a crucial crossroads for us in the bigger picture too.

Speculation is rife that Stefano Pioli will depart at the end of the season, and so various players could follow as we rebuild and give our new coach the opportunity to build his own squad.

Time will tell if Maignan features heavily in their plans or not, but based on the report above, his future could be one to monitor this summer to see if Milan make an important change in the goalkeeper ranks.
