Pioli confirms Milan quartet to start vs Genoa, duo back in squad

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has provided insight into how our starting line-up will look when we face Genoa on Sunday.

The Rossoneri are looking to secure a second-place finish in Serie A with four games remaining this season, and a win this weekend would certainly lift spirits after what has been a difficult fortnight.

Having exited the Europa League and suffered defeat to rivals Inter, who subsequently sealed the Scudetto, it hasn’t been a positive period for the club amid ongoing speculation of key changes over the summer, including a new coach to replace Pioli.

However, the focus will remain on these last four league outings to finish as well as possible, and while he’s without a number of players due to injury still, Pioli has confirmed four players who will start the game, and revealed a double boost for the matchday squad.

“Tomorrow I’ll tell you who will play,” he said to the media at his pre-match press conference, as per MilanNews. “Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao and Giroud. If I didn’t choose them other times it’s because I thought that other types of characteristics were needed more to win matches.

“They [Pierre Kalulu and Tommaso Pobega] will be called up and will also be able to play part of the match.”

With the pace, movement, technical ability and physicality of that attacking quartet, it’s hoped that we can show enough quality in the final third to score goals and secure all three points this weekend with a convincing display.

Both Chukwueze and Leao will look to provide width and a decisiveness to their end product from wide positions, while Pulisic is likely to be deployed through the middle to support Giroud.

Milan have been guilty of producing uninspiring and lacklustre attacking performances on countless occasions this season, and that has been a key factor in our underwhelming results, although that also goes for the whole team and our inability to play with fluidity and a clear style of play.

Kalulu’s return from injury in particular is a boost though, and so it’s hoped that he’ll get an opportunity to come on in the latter stages with Milan ahead and looking to see out a win.
