The group stage draw for the Champions League has been made with AC Milan set to face Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Porto.
The Rossoneri finally secured a return to Europe’s top table after finishing second in Serie A last season, as we now look forward to having big midweek European nights again.

However, it will undoubtedly be a difficult task to advance beyond the group stage as we’ll face Atletico, Liverpool and Porto, who have all enjoyed success on the European stage in more recent years and are perhaps better established at this moment in time than we are.
Nevertheless, while it is indeed a big test for Stefano Pioli and the squad, it’s one that they should relish and tackle head on, as we have plenty of quality in our side to be competitive and push our rivals to try and progress to the knockout stage.
Injuries and fitness will no doubt play a key part for all the teams involved as if we’re at full strength, then we can certainly give any of the teams named above a game, and so it remains to be seen how things play out as we look to impress on our return to the Champions League.
This perhaps also intensifies our pursuit of potential transfer targets in the final few days of the transfer window, knowing that we are perhaps still a couple of players short of having the squad that is desired by Pioli and the hierarchy.
Time will tell who else arrives, but we certainly have a number of big European nights ahead of us, and hopefully we can produce the performances and results to ensure that it is a memorable first year back in the premium European club competition.
