Amorim pushing to convince talented ex-Milan youngster to return

AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly pushing to bring Mattia Liberali back to the club and is trying to convince him to return for a second spell.

The 19-year-old came through our youth ranks and emerged as one of our top prospects, but ultimately he went on to make just one appearance at senior level before joining Catanzaro last year.

Liberali made 30 appearances last season for the Serie B outfit, scoring four goals and providing four assists, while he’s been capped 19 times at U19s level for Italy, scoring six goals to impress at international level too.

As Amorim continues to assess and analyse his squad ahead of pre-season, it appears as though he wants to bring Liberali back for a fresh start, as MilanNews report that the Portuguese tactician is a big admirer of the youngster’s talent, and he is personally trying to convince him to snub other offers and return to the Rossoneri.

It’s added that Como are interested too and are perhaps in pole position as things stand with the player himself said to have doubts given what happened during his initial stint with us, but time will tell if the intervention of Amorim can convince Liberali to return home and try to make a breakthrough at Milan under his guidance, as he is said to have a clear plan for the Italian starlet in his team.

Meanwhile, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that there is a €6m release clause in his current contract, but with Milan holding a 50 percent resale clause, we could sign him for €3m or negotiate a fresh deal with Catanzaro.

Amorim has evidently seen something in Liberali that he likes and believes he can be an important part of his ideas moving forward, and that in itself is exciting if the Milan boss intends to give youth a chance and try to develop top talents in his line-up this season and beyond.

That could extend to some of the other young prospects who are currently in the senior Milan squad or at youth level, and so it remains to be seen if Liberali is convinced to come back and set the example for others as this new era begins at Milan, and it will be fascinating to see how it all plays out over the summer ahead of Amorim’s debut season in charge.
