Newly appointed AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly eager to secure a reunion with Sporting duo Morten Hjulmand and Francisco Trincao.
The Rossoneri officially confirmed the appointment of the Portuguese tactician on Tuesday, as he arrives as Massimiliano Allegri’s successor following the disappointment of last season.
Further arrivals are expected in the coming weeks in terms of the club hierarchy, and so the hope is that there is a clear strategy and views are aligned at all levels on how this rebuild will develop.
Nevertheless, speculation has unsurprisingly already started over potential transfer targets for Milan, and Gianluca Di Marzio, as per MilanNews, reports that Amorim wants Hjulmand and Trincao to join him in Italy, and he will reportedly present their names to a sporting director, once he is appointed.
Hjulmand, 26, has made 141 appearances for Sporting since joining them in 2023 after a previous spell at Lecce, while he has earned 27 caps for Denmark having established himself as a key figure in midfield for club and country.
Milan have defensive-minded options in midfield already, but time will tell if that’s an area of the squad that Amorim will want to reshuffle and refresh this summer to implement his ideas and preferred style.
Meanwhile, Trincao bagged 13 goals and provided 18 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season, and he’ll hope to play a key role in Portugal’s World Cup campaign this summer.
His compatriot, Rafael Leao, has been vocal since the end of last season about his desire to start a new challenge elsewhere, while the Rossoneri attack surely needs reinforcements to raise our level in that part of the pitch moving forward.
In turn, adding both Trincao and Hjulmand could be smart moves from Milan to not only improve the squad, but provide Amorim with key options that are better suited to his preferred style and system, with the pair knowing what the Portuguese boss expects and demands already from their time working together previously.
It’s a fascinating time for Milan off the back of the frustration and disappointment of last season, but it’s critical now that we appoint the right people in the hierarchy to replace those who departed along with Allegri, and recruitment has to be spot on with what Amorim feels he needs to make this a successful stint.
