One out, two in as Milan plot reshuffle in key area of Amorim’s squad

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is reportedly likely to leave the club this summer, with the Rossoneri eyeing two new defensive signings.

Significant changes are expected in the coming months, as Ruben Amorim stamps his mark on the squad that he inherited from Massimiliano Allegri, and while Goncalo Ramos is the first signing to be confirmed, many more are likely to follow while others will head through the exit door.

Having conceded 35 goals in 38 Serie A games last season, giving us the joint second worst defensive record of the top six in the standings, shoring up our backline may well be a priority for Amorim, and speculation suggests that there will indeed be a reshuffle in that department in this transfer window.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tomori is tipped to be the sacrifice made to make room for new arrivals, and if that does prove to be the case, it will bring an end to the 28-year-old’s five-year stay with the Rossoneri.

The England centre-half has gone on to make 214 appearances for the club and has been an integral part of the team through his time with us, but with his current contract set to expire in 12 months time, it seems as though an exit is now more likely than a renewal.

As per the report above, Milan are said to be targeting two defenders, and although Virgil van Dijk is mentioned as a possible target, that seems highly unlikely given his importance at Liverpool and likely high wages and so trying to prise him away from the Premier League giants would seem like a difficult, and unrealistic, challenge.

However, Goncalo Inacio, Tiago Gabriel and Antonio Silva are all specifically mentioned in the report as being on our shortlist, and so it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached with the respective clubs in question to bolster our defensive ranks ahead of next season.

Given the fees likely to be required for those players, it will surely prove to be a difficult task too, but ultimately if Amorim feels as though one of them in particular suits his system and way of playing, then hopefully Milan will prioritise that individual and bring in another crucial addition.

Nevertheless, with no mention of agreements being close as of yet, there is still much work to do from the Rossoneri to address what may well be a crucial priority this summer, with other areas of the squad in need of attention still too, particularly if further exits are approved.
