Influential Milan star confirms injury blow as recovery begins ahead of pre-season

AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic has confirmed he suffered a double injury concern in the USA’s defeat to Belgium at the World Cup.

The co-hosts suffered a 4-1 loss on Monday night and subsequently exit the tournament, with Pulisic having to be replaced on the hour mark.

The 27-year-old spoke to reporters after the game, and confirmed that he was struggling with two separate issues and so now the hope is that he will have plenty of time to recover and will be ready to join his Milan teammates for pre-season at some stage.

“I completely sprained my ankle and knee in a single action,” he told ESPN, as per Antonio Vitiello. “Eh, oh well. Patience. I have time to recover. It’s just an unlucky way to end the World Cup. I’m disappointed. I didn’t have the moments I hoped to have”

The USA international is expected to play a key role under new boss Ruben Amorim, and so it’s hoped that he’s able to recover quickly and be at the Portuguese tactician’s disposal as soon as possible.

After joining us in 2023, Pulisic has become an influential figure at the club having scored 42 goals and provided 27 assists in 134 appearances, and so it’s hoped that he can continue to build on that and take his game to the next level under this new coaching staff.

For now though, his more immediate focus will be on recovering from his injuries and getting back to full health and fitness, and hopefully we’ll see him feature in pre-season to get back up to speed and adapt to the new demands from Amorim ahead of our Serie A season opener against Torino on August 23.
