Who is Mohamed Daramy? Analysis of touted AC Milan transfer target

FC Copenhagen winger Mohamed Daramy is the latest transfer target to be linked with AC Milan as we look to bolster our attacking options this summer.

The Rossoneri will prepare for a return to the Champions League next season, while the hope is that the squad will be competitive enough to also make a run at the Scudetto.

In order to be able to compete on multiple fronts, Stefano Pioli will need a strong squad with depth, and so time will tell which reinforcements arrive to follow Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori so far this summer.

As per Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo, another top young talent that has appeared on Milan’s radar is Daramy, as we will potentially look to fend off competition from around Europe to land his signature.

So, who is Daramy and what could he potentially bring to Milan?

Daramy statistics, analysis and style of play

The 19-year-old Hvidovre native came through the youth ranks at his boyhood club before making the move to Copenhagen in 2018.

Having initially joined at youth level, he made the step up the following year and has 14 goals and seven assists in 82 appearances for the senior side.

Currently capped at U21 level for Denmark, he has six caps to his name thus far, and he’ll no doubt hope to continue to develop and improve his game to become a star for both club and country moving forward.

Comfortable as a right-winger, he can play on the opposite flank too as well as through the middle, but according to Longo, Milan’s intention at least is to deploy him on the left side if either Jens Petter Hauge or Rafael Leao move on this summer.

As seen in the video below from his 2019/20 campaign with the Danish giants, he knows how to find the back of the net as he’s composed in front of goal, while he is physical and pacy which helps him create opportunities for his teammates too.

Importantly, there are positive signs of an end product to his game through either picking his head up and finding teammates while playing out wide, or playing key passes to put them in on goal.

That said, it’s a major step up if he were to join Milan, and the expectation that comes with playing for the club would add further pressure on him to deliver consistently.

We’ve seen this type of quick, slight-framed winger signed before, and ultimately it hasn’t worked out. In turn, this would certainly be another gamble from Milan if they follow through with their interest, and they will need to get it right as we can’t afford another Leao or Hauge situation.

In many ways, it’s a shame that Hauge seems unlikely to get more of a chance to prove himself. Instead, Milan appear to be assessing their options in the transfer market, and if it’s Daramy they land on, there’s not enough to suggest that he’s a sure thing as he could be hit and miss given our track record in this department.
