Tomori impact making decision on future no-brainer for Milan

Not long after his arrival from Chelsea in January, Fikayo Tomori has made a strong case for Milan to make his move a permanent one this summer.

As per BBC Sport, the 23-year-old joined us on loan for the rest of this season, with an option to buy included in the agreement worth £25m plus.

With Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer ahead of him in the pecking order upon arrival, along with Pierre Kalulu knocking on the door for a spot in the middle as well as Matteo Gabbia recovering from injury, there was perhaps some scepticism over how much playing time he would receive.

However, the situation soon shifted as Tomori has now started four of the last five Serie A games and was an ever-present in the Europa League prior to our elimination.

From his strength and agility to his pace and reading of the game, the England international has already made a big impression in the heart of our defence, bringing crucial characteristics that were missing previously and providing an important balance with whomever he partners at the back.

His absence against Inter was in point a clear indication of how vital he is to us as a modern-day centre-half who can handle different threats posed by forwards such as Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, and coupled with the lack of speed offered by the likes of Romagnoli and Kjaer, Tomori has perhaps now even raised question marks over our captain’s place in the starting XI.

Milan will have a decision to make though this summer as £25m+ is a hefty sum, and naturally it can be assumed that qualification for the Champions League will likely have a bearing on the transfer budget and the priorities for the hierarchy.

That said, if we were to book our spot at Europe’s top table for next season, Tomori’s name will surely sit high on the list of targets to acquire this summer, as the Chelsea loanee has shown his quality thus far and will surely have a pivotal role to play in the remaining 10 games of the campaign.
