Six areas of squad Milan could look to strengthen this summer

AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare reportedly has six specific areas of the current squad that he’ll look to strengthen this summer.

The Rossoneri are set to make important changes ahead of next season, as Massimiliano Allegri builds his own squad which in turn will hopefully allow him to successfully implement his ideas, system and style of play.

Given the disappointing and frustrating nature of our campaign last year, changes are certainly needed to raise the level of quality in the group, and it appears as though six areas in particular are being prioritised to bring in reinforcements and improve the squad.

According to Antonio Vitiello, Tare has a clear strategy in the transfer market, as in addition to the signing of Luka Modric, Milan could look to sign a playmaker, another midfielder, two full-backs, a striker, a winger if there is a departure and a centre-half if a current option leaves.

That touted shortlist makes a lot of sense when analysing the squad as it stands, as we’re certainly in need of more creativity in the final third particularly in central areas, with Joao Felix not staying on after an underwhelming loan spell.

While we need to fill the void left behind by Tijjani Reijnders, we’re still arguably light of quality in midfield, and with speculation linking Yunus Musah with an exit, there certainly could be the need to bring in another midfielder.

Similarly in the full-back positions, Theo Hernandez is expected to move as we avoid the risk of losing him for nothing with just 12 months remaining on his contract, while Kyle Walker will not be signed on a permanent basis after his loan stint last season.

That in turn leaves us light on both sides of the backline, and it will be fascinating to see which options emerge as priority targets to ensure we have more quality in both phases in those roles.

A striker will also be needed to add competition and a different dynamic to Santiago Gimenez when leading the line as Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic are set to depart, both Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze are said to be up for sale and so that will reduce our options out on the flanks, and if a central defender leaves, we’ll be short of options in that department too as that will leave us with three centre-backs.

Based on the above, it’s fair to say that Milan are expected to have a busy and hectic summer in the transfer market with plenty of incomings and outgoings, but’s it just hoped that we ultimately end the summer in a stronger position to compete compared to where we were when it started.
