AC Milan have officially announced that Mattia Caldara has joined Venezia on a season-long loan deal, with the agreement containing an option to buy.
The 27-year-old has seen his time with the Rossoneri blighted by injuries which in turn have led to him making just two appearances for the club since joining us.

Having spent time on loan at Atalanta last season, he is now set for another temporary departure, with the club’s official site confirming he has joined Venezia for the upcoming campaign.
Importantly, it’s added that there is an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season, and so time will tell whether or not the Serie A newcomers decide to exercise that clause.
For Caldara, it represents an opportunity to play regular football and become an important figure in their backline to regain the form that led to moves to Juventus and Milan just a few years ago.
Should he help keep them up and avoid an immediate return to Serie B, it’s hard not seeing them making his switch permanent, but time will tell how things play out over the course of the season.
As for Milan, with Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli leading a talented group of defenders, Caldara’s chances of playing regularly at San Siro were minimal, despite the fact that we have the Champions League to consider this year too.
In turn, it’s a move that makes sense for all concerned, and while his priority for now is to stay healthy and avoid any further injury setbacks, Caldara will also be hoping to show his quality during his latest loan spell and see what the future holds beyond that.
