MN: Milan close in on Florenzi signing in initial loan deal

AC Milan are reportedly closing in on securing the signing of Alessandro Florenzi from Roma in what would be an initial loan switch.

The Rossoneri have signed Fode Ballo-Toure this summer to add depth at left-back, but with a deal for Diogo Dalot seemingly unlikely as he’s still at Man Utd following his loan spell with us last year, competition and depth for Davide Calabria on the right side is still needed.

With that in mind, MilanNews report that we’re close to agreeing a deal to sign Florenzi from Roma, while it’s added that the Italian stalwart would join on an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season, although it could become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

Florenzi, 30, was part of the Italy squad that won Euro 2020 earlier this summer, but his future with the Giallorossi has been in doubt given his loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain last season which followed a stint with Valencia in the previous campaign.

Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly have his own plans for the squad moving forward, and it would appear as though Florenzi doesn’t form part of them as he is closing in on a move to Milan.

As noted above, it’s an area in which the Rossoneri do need more depth and quality, while Florenzi’s versatility will allow him to fill other roles too if necessary.

Coupled with his experience and knowledge of Serie A as well as playing at the top level in Europe, it’s arguably a smart pick up from Milan, should a deal be done, as he’ll no doubt be an important option for Stefano Pioli this season particularly as we try to compete across multiple fronts with Serie A, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in mind.

In turn, it’s hoped that an agreement can be wrapped up and Florenzi makes the move to San Siro, with Milan then in a position to continue to strengthen the squad elsewhere and use their remaining funds to bring in real quality, especially in the final third where we still need another playmaker ahead of the new season.
