How Milan could line up vs Spezia: Three key changes from Pioli

AC Milan travel to face Spezia this weekend as the Rossoneri look to extend our impressive start to the Serie A season.

After five games, Milan sit in third place in the standings with 13 points on the board, 10 goals scored and just two conceded.

In turn, as we look to compete for the Scudetto this year, picking up another important three points on Saturday will be pivotal, especially with injury absentees making it more difficult.

Nevertheless, Stefano Pioli will have plenty of quality at his disposal this weekend once again, while it’s hoped that Olivier Giroud is fit enough to make the bench after missing the last two games due to a back issue.

Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori and Alexis Saelemaekers set to return

Pioli opted to rotate his Milan side in midweek against Venezia, and while we toiled before making a breakthrough and securing all three points, the decision ultimately worked and will be crucial in the weeks and months ahead as it’s hugely important we keep our key players well rested.

Milan will have one eye on our Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid next Tuesday too and so that could influence our starting XI this weekend, but with the early kick-off on Saturday, it should give us enough time to rest and recover after putting out a strong XI.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport’s graphic below, it appears as though Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori and Alexis Saelemaekers are all in line to return to the starting line-up after being rested on Wednesday, giving us something close to our best available look.

That would see Franck Kessie rested once again, while Giroud is named on the bench in what would be a huge boost given we’ve missed having the option of a focal point up top to lead the line.

Time will tell if this is what Pioli goes with, but whatever XI he puts out, Milan have the depth and quality to secure another win and remain on track with one eye on Europe next week too.
