Potential boost as transfer target prioritising Milan move

In our search for a new right-back this summer, Tottenham’s Emerson Royal is said to be prioritising a move to AC Milan.

The 25-year-old joined Spurs from Barcelona in August 2021, and has since gone on to make 101 appearances for the Premier League side, scoring four goals and providing two assists to go with his defensive contribution.

His previous stint at Real Betis was where he really impressed though, and so a fresh move elsewhere this summer could be key in helping him rediscover his best form on a consistent basis, while trying to add to his 10 caps for Brazil.

Speculation suggests that Milan are keen to bolster our options at right-back this summer to add competition for Davide Calabria, which in turn would ensure Alessandro Florenzi is merely depth moving forward while Pierre Kalulu can settle into a centre-half role.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Emerson is expected to leave Tottenham in the coming weeks, and it’s noted that he is prioritising a move to Milan, who are keen on him, but it remains to be seen if the two clubs will be able to reach an agreement on a transfer fee.

Romano has previously reported that it could take a bid of €20m to convince Spurs to green light an exit, and while that seems a lot for the player in question, time will tell if Milan are willing to get close to satisfying their touted price-tag.

With his pace, technical ability and attacking flair, Emerson could be the injection of energy and athleticism that we need down the right flank to add balance and a different dynamic to our play, and he could prove to be a smart addition ahead of Paulo Fonseca’s expected appointment.

Much will hopefully depend on the incoming Milan coach’s thoughts and how our potential transfer targets fit his ideas, style of play and structure, and if it’s decided that Emerson would be the best fit for the right-back role to upgrade in that position, we’ll hopefully be able to secure a deal for the Brazilian.
