Deserved return to England squad for Tomori after impressive Milan form

Fikayo Tomori’s exceptional form for AC Milan has been rewarded as the defender has been called up for the latest England squad.

Since joining us in January on an initial loan deal from Chelsea, the 23-year-old has cemented his place as a pillar of our defence and a pivotal piece in the side for our long-term future.

He has successfully brought a sense of solidity and calmness to the backline, and along with his teammates, we have one of the strongest defences in Serie A.

Through his aggressiveness, speed, physicality, awareness, positioning and reading of the game, he has wasted little time in emerging as one of our top performers and has proven that he can produce consistently at the very highest level.

As seen in his tweet, Tomori was delighted with the news and it’s a deserved reward for his form at Milan dating back to last season, while it’s hoped that his game will merely go from strength to strength in the coming years given he’s still only 23.

With the level of confidence and maturity that he plays with, you’d be forgiven for thinking that he has been playing the game for much longer than in reality, but ultimately he will want to continue to improve and develop his game moving forward to become a dominant figure for both club and country for many more years.

While it’s great to see him return to the England squad, from a Milan perspective, the next aim is to help us compete and ultimately win major trophies.

Our Champions League campaign hasn’t gone to plan thus far, but there is still time for that to be turned around. In contrast, given our positive start to the Serie A season, that is certainly one of the main objectives this year and Tomori will no doubt play a fundamental part in helping us challenge throughout the campaign.

Time will tell if the Milan defender is given the nod to feature in England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but based on his form so far this season, he has absolutely made a strong argument in favour of pushing his way to the front of the queue to become a mainstay in the England side.
