Confirmed Milan XI vs Atalanta: Crucial boost for Conceicao in crunch clash

AC Milan host Atalanta in a key Serie A encounter on Sunday night, and Sergio Conceicao has named his starting line-up for the clash.

With just six league games remaining this season, the Rossoneri can ill-afford any further slip-ups if we still harbour hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a top-four finish.

With an eight-point gap to bridge as things stand, it’s been a bitterly disappointing and inconsistent campaign thus far, but Conceicao and the players will hope to find form at a critical moment to build off our 4-0 win at Udinese last time out.

Ahead of this game, the expectation was that the Milan boss would stick with the same personnel and system that worked so effectively in that victory, albeit there was a slight doubt over Mike Maignan’s ability to start after the head injury he suffered in that meeting.

As per the club’s post below, there was good news as the French shot-stopper was passed fit to start, and so it’s an unchanged Milan side from our win in Udine.

That in turn means we stick with the 3-4-3 system with Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic forming our back-three, with Alex Jimenez and Theo Hernandez operating as our wing-backs.

Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reinjders make up our midfield, with Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao deployed on the flanks to support Luka Jovic in the final third.

While the consistency element of being able to go with the same XI is an important boost for Conceicao, it’s hope that it works equally as effectively as it did last time out, but this time against tougher opposition.

It’s certainly a boost to see Maignan between the posts though as we need a solid foundation on which to go out and win the game, and hopefully the Rossoneri can get the job done on a big night at San Siro.
