Analysis: Why Kaio Jorge has emerged as an AC Milan transfer target

AC Milan are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Santos striker Kaio Jorge as we look to add more quality up front.

Beyond Zlatan Ibrahimovic, there is a real lack of quality competition and depth in that department in the current Rossoneri squad, and so it’s something that will be addressed this summer.

As per MilanNews, Olivier Giroud is expected to arrive in the coming days to offer one solution, but given the age of the Frenchman at 34 and with Ibrahimovic not getting any younger, Milan need a more youthful option too with a longer-term plan in mind.

The report above suggests that we’re giving serious consideration to Kaio Jorge, with either a move in January or in the more immediate future on the table for the Santos starlet, who will see his current contract expire in the New Year.

With our domestic and Champions League commitments to consider though, it would arguably be more beneficial to Stefano Pioli to have him available for the start of the season, but time will tell if the relevant agreements can be reached to allow that to materialise.

So, if Kaio Jorge is the top choice, what could he bring to the Milan squad?

Stats, profile and style of play for Milan transfer target Kaio Jorge

The 19-year-old has come through the ranks at Santos, and currently has 15 goals and four assists in 75 appearances for the Brazilian giants at senior level.

He’s also impressed on the international scene with Brazil, scoring seven goals in 11 caps for the U17s, and so there is certainly plenty of discussion over his future for both club and country.

As seen in the video below, the Brazilian ace is physically imposing up front, possesses a great first touch and technical quality coupled with vision to bring others into play and keep moves progressing into the final third.

He is comfortable and composed in possession and can drop deep to make things happen too, while he certainly has an eye for goal and can offer a real threat in a variety of ways with both feet and in the air.

There’s impressive variation to the type of goals he scores too, from poacher efforts inside the box to more stylish and difficult finishes that show he has the ability and potential to make a difference.

Naturally with any young player, there is a lot of room for improvement still and he’ll mature and develop physically in the coming years to hopefully become a real star.

Time will tell if that process plays out in a Milan shirt, but speculation suggests that Kaio Jorge could be a real option for the Rossoneri in the coming weeks and could be the latest Brazilian to join an illustrious group who have previously played for the club.
