AC Milan have completed the signing of midfielder Youssouf Fofana from Monaco to add another key reinforcement to Paulo Fonseca’s squad.

However, the midfield was seemingly still seen as an area of weakness, and speculation has linked us with an interest in Fofana for weeks, but no deal had been forthcoming.

Fortunately, the club have now officially announced the signing of the French international, and he will certainly bolster our options in that department and add a level of physicality, athleticism and technical ability that has been missing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is said to be worth €25m, while Milan have confirmed that Fofana has put pen to paper on a four-year contract and will wear the No.29 shirt.

It’s another addition that strengthens the spine of this Milan team, with Pavlovic, Fofana and Morata expected to play fundamental roles in helping Fonseca implement his ideas and principles, as well as a clear style of play.

The expectation is that our transfer business has now concluded in terms of incomings, while it’s hoped that we can continue to find solutions for players considered expendable by Fonseca to trim the squad and make it a more competitive group with quality over quantity.

Fofana will now focus on integrating as quickly as possible with his new teammates, and the hope is that we’ll see him in action sooner rather than later and starting to have a pivotal influence on the way we play both in and out of possession. Given the nature and length of our pursuit in trying to sign him, he was seemingly always considered a vital addition for Fonseca, and so the Milan boss will no doubt be delighted to wrap this move up.
