AC Milan are reportedly set to make an improved offer in our bid to sign Young Boys right-back Zachary Athekame after an initial bid of €7m was rejected.
The Rossoneri remain busy in the summer transfer window as Massimiliano Allegri continues to mould the squad into his own ahead of his first season back in charge, and Athekame has seemingly now emerged as our preferred option to strengthen the group in the right-back position.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan are expected to make an improved offer after an initial proposal worth €7m was deemed insufficient by the Swiss side, and so it remains to be seen whether or not a breakthrough can be achieved between the two clubs in negotiations in the coming days.
It’s added that the 20-year-old wants to join the Rossoneri, and so it’s hoped that the pieces fall into place for the transfer to materialise.
Athekame has made 45 appearances for Young Boys since initially joining them in January 2024, and that includes experience in the Champions League.
In turn, it seems as though he’s caught the attention of the Milan recruitment team, as we continue to look to improve in that department with the likes of Alex Jimenez, Alexis Saelemaekers and Filippo Terracciano currently at Allegri’s disposal to play that role.
Milan have already moved this summer to reshuffle things on the opposite side with Pervis Estupinan coming in to replace Theo Hernandez at left-back, and as we continue to evolve to suit Allegri’s ideas, system and style of play, Athekame could be an important addition to allow the Rossoneri coach to continue to implement his preferred plans.
Athekame certainly wasn’t the first name to be linked with a potential switch to join us to address that position this summer, but time will tell if he will ultimately prove to be the solution as we continue to make changes and hopefully build a squad capable of being competitive this season and beyond.
