AC Milan have reportedly agreed on personal terms with Monaco ace Youssouf Fofana as we look to bolster our midfield options this summer.
The 25-year-old has established himself as a key figure for the Ligue 1 side since joining them in 2020, making 175 appearances across all competitions, while scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists to go with his defensive work.

With 21 caps for France to his name too, Fofana is an experienced and talented midfielder with a big future still ahead of him, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he could spend the next chapter of his club career with the Rossoneri.
As per his report, Milan have now agreed on personal terms with the French international who is said to want to join us, and now negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs in order to find an agreement on a transfer fee.
While it’s suggested that they’ve rejected a €30m proposal from Nottingham Forest, it looks likely to be a significant investment from Milan, but ultimately it’s a move that makes a lot of sense in terms of addressing a crucial weakness in the current squad.
Milan boss Paulo Fonseca will have quality to work with already in that department, but what he will likely acknowledge quickly is the lack of a real physical, athletic and commanding presence in his midfield with the primary responsibility of providing protection in front of the backline.
Fofana is a box-to-box midfielder and so he can offer something in the attacking phase too, but whether it’s to complement Ismael Bennacer or others, this would seem like a sensible addition from the Rossoneri to shore up our midfield.
Nevertheless, although agreeing on personal terms is one major hurdle to overcome, nothing is guaranteed at this stage with the clubs yet to agree on a fee, and so it’s hoped that if Fofana has been prioritised by Fonseca as a crucial signing for what he is trying to build at the club, we can get the deal done sooner rather than later.
That in turn will give him as much time as possible to adapt and settle in, while that isn’t the only area of the Milan squad that requires focus this summer as we must strengthen in other positions too if we are to be competitive at the desired level in the upcoming campaign.
