AC Milan transfer news: Tomori, Brahim updates, Caldara return as quartet could leave

AC Milan reportedly want to keep Fikayo Tomori and Brahim Diaz, but while Mattia Caldara is set to return, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu and Alessio Romagnoli could leave.

The Rossoneri set up a dramatic season finale but successfully secured a return to the Champions League for next season after winning at Atalanta on Sunday night, and that will no doubt have an influence on our plans this summer.

With matters on the pitch having concluded, Paolo Maldini and the hierarchy will now get to work on trying to strengthen Stefano Pioli’s squad, and it could start with trying to keep players who were with us on a temporary basis on more permanent deals.

Milan want to keep Tomori, Diaz

As reported by MilanNews, via Sky Sport Italia, Milan intend on signing both Tomori and Sandro Tonali outright, while they want to keep Brahim Diaz for another year on loan.

However, there is less certainty surrounding Soualiho Meite and Diogo Dalot, with the pair seemingly heading towards a return to their parent clubs.

Given the impact Tomori made along with Diaz’s form in the latter stages of the season and Tonali’s talent, it arguably makes sense for Milan to keep all three moving forward.

Meite struggled to have a positive influence for the most part while Dalot could be an expensive option to bolster our full-back department and so choosing not to pursue them could be the smart move.

Caldara to return to Milan this summer

Meanwhile, the paper edition of Tuttosport, as per MilanNews, notes that Caldara will return to Milan this summer as Atalanta don’t intend on making his return permanent.

In turn, it remains to be seen if the Rossoneri opt to keep the Italian centre-half around and give him another chance to prove his worth, or if they will simply look to offload him elsewhere.

With doubts hanging over other players in that area of the squad, there is possibly an argument to suggest that keeping Caldara for depth might be a sensible move.

Calhanoglu, Romagnoli and Castillejo doubts

Elsewhere, Sky Sport Italia, as noted by MilanNews, report that there are doubts over the futures of Calhanoglu, Romagnoli and Samu Castillejo this summer.

Calhanoglu will be a free agent next month and so could follow Donnarumma out of the exit door, while Romagnoli’s deal expires next summer and so unless he signs a renewal soon, Milan could be tempted to listen to offers for our captain especially given he lost his place in the starting XI this year.

As for Castillejo, with a limited influence in our attack, Milan must surely look for an upgrade on the right wing this summer as a priority, as the Spaniard simply hasn’t shown enough quality or consistency to warrant being one of the first options in that role.
