Solution still sought as Milan look to cash in on significant exit

AC Milan are reportedly continuing to hold discussions over a potential exit for Theo Hernandez this summer.

Having been heavily linked with Al Hilal earlier this month, a move to the Saudi club failed to materialise given the French defender’s preference to remain in Europe.

However, despite interest from Atletico Madrid, a move back to Spain fell through as negotiations broke down, and so Hernandez remains a Milan player for the time being.

With just 12 months remaining on his current contract with the Rossoneri and the chances of him signing a renewal looking highly remote, an exit this summer would seemingly make the most sense for all concerned.

According to Antonio Vitiello, the club held talks on Wednesday as they attempt to move the French international on with Al Hilal said to still be a possible solution, if the Milan left-back is willing to join them.

Further, Fabrizio Romano has since reported that the offer from the Saudi outfit still stands, but despite Milan being ready to approve that switch which could net the club around €35m, it remains to be seen if Hernandez will open himself up to the idea of the move.

It seems pretty clear from the indications touted in these reports that Milan are very much keen to move Hernandez on, and a significant fee would certainly help Massimiliano Allegri rebuild the squad and mould it into his own.

The contract situation is likely to be a major factor as we would undoubtedly prefer to avoid losing the player for nothing in a year’s time, and so time will tell if a suitable outcome materialises.

Changes were certainly needed after last season, with Hernandez falling under his usual standard on an individual level too along with the rest of the team, and coupled with his contract concerns, it feels like the right time for the two parties to go their separate ways.
