Milan ace’s reluctance to make specific move could now scupper exit deal

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez’s reluctance to join Al Hilal could now scupper a move after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

The 27-year-old is now in the final 12 months of his current contract with the Rossoneri, and there appears to be a desire from the club’s side to move him on this summer and avoid losing him for nothing next year.

With a lack of tangible progress being made in renewal talks, it doesn’t appear as though the Frenchman has a long-term future at San Siro, but Milan’s attempts to offload him haven’t proven to be fruitful as of yet.

According to Fabrizio Romano, despite the club reaching an agreement with Al Hilal over a transfer, Hernandez hasn’t agreed on personal terms and isn’t approving the switch. In turn, the Saudi Arabian club could now focus on alternative targets to strengthen their options at left-back.

On one hand, it’s frustrating from the club’s perspective as they want to secure a significant fee for Hernandez if we are to lose him, and Al Hilal give us the best possible chance of doing that with the resources that they possess.

However, it’s understandable from the player’s point of view if he doesn’t feel as though this is the right stage of his career to make the move to the Gulf state, and so Milan may well have to respect his wishes of staying in Europe if we are to secure a deal with a club this summer to bring in funds from a Hernandez sale.

Time will tell if the interest is there and a suitable offer is made to convince the club to part company with the French international, as although seeing him run down his contract and leaving on a free transfer can’t be ruled out at this point, it’s certainly a far from ideal scenario for Milan.

Massimiliano Allegri will have clear plans and ideas of how he wants to rebuild this squad and mould it into his own, and given the openness to sell Hernandez to Al Hilal at least, it doesn’t look as though he’ll have a big part to play in our project moving forward.
