Milan set sights on top target if potential €35m exit materialises

AC Milan have reportedly set their sights on Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as a potential replacement for Theo Hernandez.

It’s already been a summer of change as the Rossoneri have appointed Igli Tare as sporting director, while Massimiliano Allegri has returned for a second stint in charge to replace Sergio Conceicao.

Next up to be addressed is the squad having been so disappointing and frustrating last season, and so the focus will be on improving the group, but also moulding it into one that suits the identity and style of play that Allegri will look to implement.

In order to do that, Milan are expected to have to sell players to raise funds for our incomings, and according to Sky Sport, the club have reached a basic agreement with Al Hilal over a €35m departure for Theo Hernandez.

It’s not a done deal as the Frenchman has yet to give his approval to join the Saudi Arabian club, but with the salary that could potentially be on offer, it remains to be seen if that’s something he’s prepared to turn down even at this stage of his career.

The report goes on to note that Milan will of course have a major void to fill given how influential Hernandez has been over the past few years, and Cambiaso could emerge as the front-runner as he’s highly-rated by both Allegri and Tare.

As far as the possibility of losing Theo goes, while he has been such a dynamic and critical presence in the side for a number of years now, his inconsistency and arguable decline defensively have been on show over the past 12 months, and although he remains a top-class player who we’ll miss if he leaves, there is a sense that the timing could be right to part ways.

Further, Milan have to be wise in picking who we’re willing to sacrifice this summer to fund our own spending, and while it will hurt to lose some key individuals, it’s hoped that it ultimately leads to a stronger squad as a whole being assembled.

Cambiaso, 25, has a wealth of experience having now made 81 appearances for Juventus, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists to go with his defensive work, and as a player that Allegri knows well, he’ll hopefully thrive at Milan, should he arrive ahead of next season to fill some pretty big boots.
