Contract agreed as Milan ace edges closer to imminent departure

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez has reportedly signed his contract with Al Hilal ahead of his €25m move.

Speculation has been rife over the 27-year-old’s future all summer given he’s now in the final 12 months of his current deal with the Rossoneri, with an exit touted as the most likely outcome.

After joining us in 2019, Hernandez has gone on to make 262 appearances for the club, scoring 34 goals and providing 45 assists to go with his defensive work.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, he won’t be adding to those tallies in the upcoming campaign as he’s signed a three-year deal with Al Hilal, with Goal reporting that the transfer is expected to be worth a €25m transfer fee.

While we’ll certainly miss the quality that the French international brought to the team as well as his experience and the attacking dynamic he provided us with down the left flank, it feels like the right time to part company, particularly given his contract situation and with no renewal in sight.

Rather than run the risk of losing him for nothing next year, Milan get the chance to cash in with a significant fee, and that will no doubt be reinvested straight back into the squad on his replacement to ensure that we fill that large void.

Further, after a bitterly disappointing season last year both on an individual level and as a team collectively, it’s a new cycle for Milan with Massimiliano Allegri returning for a second stint, and if that wasn’t enough to convince Hernandez to sign a renewal or if the Italian tactician was open to selling and moving on, then so be it and it’s hoped that we’re able to strengthen the group and improve as a result moving forward.

Time will tell what other departures materialise with Tijjani Reijnders having already left the club this summer, but with ambitious plans to mould the squad into Allegri’s and raise the level of quality to ensure that we’re more competitive in the coming years, it’s an exciting time despite seeing key individuals move on.
