Agreement touted as Milan in position to seal deal to bolster midfield options

AC Milan have reportedly reached an agreement with Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci ahead of a potential transfer this summer.

The 23-year-old joined Torino from Empoli in 2022, and he has since gone on to make 113 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing seven assists to go with his overall impact in their midfield.

Ricci was linked with a move to Milan while he was at Empoli, but ultimately a switch never materialised at that time, and it’s now being suggested that it could happen the second time round.

According to Antonio Vitiello, the Rossoneri have reached an agreement with the Italian international, and the offer on the table to Torino is said to be worth €25m including add-ons.

He adds that Milan are confident about securing a deal, and so time will tell if negotiations advance quickly and official confirmation of the move is not far off.

There was a setback in the midfield department to start the summer after Tijjani Reijnders sealed a move to Manchester City earlier this month, and so the Dutchman leaves behind a significant void that must be filled ahead of next season.

Speculation has linked us with countless targets, while sporting director Igli Tare appeared to confirm that Luka Modric will arrive next month, but further reinforcements are seemingly being planned for in midfield to ensure we have enough quality, experience, leadership and youth for a short-term and long-term strategy.

Ricci has the experience of playing regularly in Serie A while at 23 years of age, he still has so much more room for improvement and development, and it’s hoped that if he does indeed arrive at Milan, Massimiliano Allegri is able to help him unlock that potential to be a key figure in our midfield for years to come.

That said, it will be interesting to see if he gets priority now given we’re still being linked with other midfielders including Granit Xhaka, as that may well be a clear indication that Milan expect further exits in that area of the squad, and so additional signings could be on the way to ensure we have the competition for places and strength in depth needed to compete for major honours next season and beyond.
