Interest touted in Milan midfielder with Allegri open to approving exit

Lazio are reportedly interested in AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and it’s suggested that the Rossoneri could be open to an exit.

The 29-year-old joined us from Chelsea in 2023 and has since gone on to make 68 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists.

Injuries were a real issue for him last season though in a frustrating and disappointing campaign for him personally and for the team as a whole, as he was limited to 28 appearances across all competitions, and that in turn has perhaps contributed to doubts emerging over his future with us.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio are keen on Loftus-Cheek with Maurizio Sarri eyeing a reunion with his former Chelsea midfielder, while it’s added that Massimiliano Allegri doesn’t consider the England international as a key piece in his Milan rebuild plans.

Given the exits that have already materialised this summer and those that have been intensely speculated, it’s questionable as to who actually does fit into those plans at the moment, as the scale of this rebuild is arguably looking to be much bigger than many expected.

That may well be necessary given the woeful season we just experienced and the decline we’ve watched in the squad since our Scudetto-winning campaign in 2021/22, but a sense of stability will surely also be needed with some key pieces from the current group forming part of the strategy moving forward.

With his physicality, athleticism and ability to provide a threat in the final third when he’s fully fit and in form, Loftus-Cheek could arguably be a useful option for Allegri to have in midfield, but the report above would suggest otherwise and an exit could now follow.

Having already seen Tijjani Reijnders depart and with Yunus Musah being heavily linked with a switch to Napoli, the Milan midfield appears to be in line for a significant reshuffle in particular, and time will tell if Loftus-Cheek is a victim of that, or if he gets time in pre-season next month to convince Allegri that he does have a role to play for us in the upcoming campaign.
