Double exit could raise €100m as Milan set sights on replacements

AC Milan could reportedly raise around €100m from the potential exits of Tijjani Reijnders and Mike Maignan.

It’s shaping up to be a critical summer for the Rossoneri, as we look set for a major rebuild following the appointment of Igli Tare as sporting director and the return of Massimiliano Allegri as coach.

Given the disappointment of last season, changes were certainly needed, and it’s imperative that Milan build a squad that is suited to Allegri’s preferred system and style of play to give us a clear identity.

With no European football to offer next season though and amid expiring contracts, it looks as though we could face the threat of losing key individuals this summer, but it’s hoped that the money raised will be reinvested back into the squad to ensure we’re more competitive moving forward.

According to Sky Sport, Reijnders could complete his move to Manchester City on Wednesday, with Milan demanding €70m to give the green light for the influential Dutch midfielder to depart.

We’ll certainly miss his presence in the side given how impactful he was in both phases, but with Sky adding that Luka Modric is close to agreeing a deal to join us, that is some way to fill the void in our midfield despite the ageing world-class stalwart being in the latter stages of his career.

Meanwhile, the report goes on to add that Milan have put a €30m price-tag on Maignan amid interest from Chelsea, and that would be an excellent fee to collect for the French stop-stopper given he has just 12 months remaining on his current contract with us.

Ideally, we’d keep these two vitally important players at the club and build around them, as there are arguably many other players in the group that we could sacrifice instead who haven’t been up to the standard expected.

Nevertheless, these are the players in demand, and while Reijnders’ exit now sounds inevitable, it remains to be seen if Maignan does indeed join him in heading out of the exit door this summer.

Should he depart, Matteo Moretto, as reported by MilanNews, has noted that Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has been identified as a possible replacement between the posts, with the Serbian international having a €20m release clause in his contract.

The 28-year-old is certainly an experienced solution given he’s made over 150 appearances for Torino and has 19 caps for Serbia, but time will tell if he’s our preferred option to fill a possible Maignan-shaped void this summer.
