AC Milan are reportedly close to securing a deal to sign Lille defender Sven Botman this summer.
The Rossoneri were disappointingly quiet in the January transfer window, as given it was felt that reinforcements were needed to build on our start to the season and to compete for trophies in the more immediate future, the Milan hierarchy opted against any notable signings.

While it remains to be seen if that decision proves to be costly in terms of our pursuit of the Serie A title and Coppa Italia this season, time will tell if the strategy to wait until the summer to secure important additions to the squad was the right one in the long term.
As reported by MilanNews, journalist Carlo Pellegatti has suggested that following talks with sources in the Netherlands, it has been suggested to him that a deal for Botman to join Milan is all-but done and that he will be a Milan player this summer.
With no official news on this particular move, it’s too early to be excited about the possibility of signing Botman, but the indications are certainly positive and it follows meetings that the club held with his representatives at Casa Milan last month.
In turn, that would suggest that there could be some substance to the claims and it’s undoubtedly hoped that there is given the quality that Botman possesses.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a key figure for Lille, culminating in him helping them win the Ligue 1 title last season, while he’s no doubt pushing to make his debut at senior level for the Netherlands having been capped nine times by the U21s.
Given how highly regarded and rated the Dutchman is, there will no doubt be other clubs still competing and looking to convince him to make a different move this summer, but based on the report above, it sounds as though Milan are at least in a strong position and will be eager to secure his signature in the coming months.
