Talks held but potential stumbling block touted in Milan pursuit

AC Milan have reportedly held fresh talks over a potential move for Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.

The 28-year-old is an experienced operator having enjoyed a successful spell with Manchester City prior to joining the Gunners in 2022.

He’s now made 91 appearances for Arsenal with 128 games to his name in a Man City shirt too, and the Ukrainian international has proven to be a key presence defensively for both sides, but also with his tactical and positional intelligence to play a pivotal role in the offensive phase too.

With the experience of winning multiple trophies during his time at the Etihad, it could be another sensible acquisition from Milan, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that fresh talks were held between the two clubs on Tuesday in a bid to potentially reach an agreement.

However, it’s explicitly noted in the report that Zinchenko’s wages could prove to be problematic, and so it remains to be seen if a compromise can be reached between the two parties in order for a transfer to materialise.

Amid ongoing speculation over Theo Hernandez’s future, Milan could have a major void to fill at left-back this summer, and so the link with Zinchenko certainly makes sense.

That said, it could be argued that there are better options on the market, particularly those who offer a longer-term solution, but time will tell if Milan make progress in any alternative pursuits.

With so many changes expected this summer, adding experienced stalwarts to bring a calmness and composure to the rest of the team certainly sounds like a sensible strategy.

Furthermore, if they fit the system and style of play that Allegri will look to implement, then they could all prove to be inspired acquisitions as next season plays out.

For now though, it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed between Milan and Zinchenko, with the Ukrainian defender seemingly a much-liked option by the club hierarchy.
