Interest builds in Milan misfit as exit would be ideal solution

AC Milan forward Noah Okafor is reportedly attracting plenty of interest despite his underwhelming last couple of years in Italy.

The 25-year-old joined the Rossoneri in 2023, and he has since gone on to make 53 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

While some of those goals were decisive in wins, he failed to produce at a high enough level and consistently, and that in turn led to the Swiss international being loaned out last season to Napoli.

His struggles continued there as he managed just four appearances, and having returned to Milan this month, question marks remain over his future moving forward.

According to MilanNews, Okafor doesn’t form part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans and so the expectation is that the club will try to move him on in a permanent switch this summer.

Despite those struggles outlined above, it’s added that Besiktas and other European and South American clubs have come forward to show interest, and so it remains to be seen if just one of those clubs make a suitable offer that Milan are willing to accept to green light a departure.

It’s unclear as to how much we could recoup on Okafor, but bringing in a transfer fee to reinvest back into the squad on players better suited to Allegri’s ideas coupled with bringing the wage bill down make it a sensible move and the right approach to take from the club, but it’s one thing having interest in a player and another entirely to make a deal happen.

After a bitterly disappointing and frustrating campaign last season, the Rossoneri needed to make big changes to the squad to raise the standard and level of quality to ensure that we compete at the top level moving forward.

Giving sporting director Igli Tare and Allegri the room to build their own squad is of paramount importance as it will put the Milan boss in the best possible position to succeed, and so if he is happy to move Okafor on, it’s hoped an exit can materialise as it will ultimately suit all concerned as the Swiss forward will only drop down the pecking order behind options better suited to Allegri’s preferred system and style of play.
