Interest touted in duo as Milan consider reinforcements in key areas

AC Milan are reportedly interested in Aston Villa duo Matty Cash and Douglas Luiz as we look to bring in key reinforcements this summer.

The Rossoneri will begin a new era this summer with Stefano Pioli’s successor set to be appointed in due course, and with that will come new signings to suit his ideas and principles.

It will hopefully result in a more competitive and entertaining side, but our recruitment must be spot on if we are to move in the right direction and close the gap on our rivals to challenge for silverware next season and beyond.

According to Calciomercato, Milan are keen on both Cash and Luiz as we consider a double swoop for the Villa pair, having both had impressive seasons in helping them qualify for the Champions League last season.

While the expectation is that we’ll prioritise a right-back this summer to upgrade in that position and add much-need competition for Davide Calabria, Cash has the experience for both club and country to help improve us.

In addition to his defensive attributes, his energy and athleticism could add an important dynamic down our right flank and add balance to the side, but with the report noting that Villa value him at over €20m, time will tell if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, it’s added that Milan also hold an interest in Luiz, but Juventus are said to be ahead of us in that particular pursuit and so it remains to be seen if we put a proposal forward to try and rival them.

The Brazilian international contributed 10 goals and 10 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions last season, as he was a key figure for Unai Emery in helping control games in midfield with his technical ability.

We could certainly do with adding more quality in midfield, particularly in possession to help us dictate and control games in that area of the pitch on a more consistent basis, and so it’s understandable as to why Milan might be keen on Luiz.

However, it remains to be seen if that’s a losing battle if Juve are at a more advanced stage in talks, while it’s unclear if Milan are capable of satisfying Villa’s demands given that they will likely want a significant fee for their prized asset, regardless of whether or not they are facing financial pressure to sell this month.
