Interest touted as Milan eye key defensive reinforcement

AC Milan are reportedly interested in the potential signing of Almeria defender Marc Pubill as a potential solution at right-back.

The 22-year-old joined Almeria from Levante in 2023, and he has since gone on to make 63 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing eight assists to go with his defensive work.

Having also been capped at U21s level for Spain, it appears as though his form and progression have caught the attention of the Rossoneri, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Milan see him as a potential signing this summer.

It’s added that we could face stiff competition for his signature given Barcelona are among the other clubs interested, while it could take a bid worth around €15m to prise him away from his current club.

What is clear at this stage is that Milan certainly need to address the right-back position, as we must upgrade in that role ahead of next season given Kyle Walker won’t be signed on a permanent basis, Davide Calabria has departed as a free agent and question marks could be raised over the likes of Emerson Royal, Alex Jimenez and Alexis Saelemaekers being the long-term solutions.

If Pubill ticks all the important boxes as far as what Massimiliano Allegri needs from his right-back in the system and style of play that he intends on implementing and instilling over the summer ahead of his first campaign back at the helm, then the Spaniard may well emerge as a priority transfer target in the coming weeks.

It comes after the Rossoneri secured our first notable addition of the transfer window with Samuele Ricci arriving from Torino, and many more changes are expected between now and the start of the new season as Allegri continues to rebuild this squad and mould it into his own to ensure we’re significantly more competitive next year.

While our midfield has felt like the top priority thus far, there could be movement in defence sooner rather than later, but it certainly could be argued that if Pubill is a serious target, we’ll have to move players on who are currently pushing to make that position theirs as we can’t have such an overcrowded battle for one specific role.
