Contact made as Milan face big decision over key figure this summer

Manchester City have reportedly made contact with AC Milan to discuss a possible transfer for Tijjani Reijnders this summer.

The Dutchman has established himself as a key figure for the Rossoneri since joining us in 2023 from AZ Alkmaar, as he’s gone on to make 101 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists to go with his all-round influence.

With his energy, tenacity and technical quality, he has been a fundamental presence in our midfield in both phases, impressing this year despite a disappointing campaign for the club.

With 22 caps for the Netherlands to his name too, the 26-year-old has a big future ahead of him for club and country, and it’s hoped that he remains a pivotal part of our plans moving forward and we build around individuals as important as him.

However, as per David Ornstein, Man City have set their sights on Reijnders this summer it seems, as they’ve made contact with Milan to discuss a potential transfer, and while they’ve expressed their interest and talks have begun, there has not been a formal offer submitted as of yet.

Nevertheless, it sounds as though it’s merely a matter of time before one is made, and so the Milan hierarchy have a major decision to make this summer over the Dutch international’s future.

On one hand, it could be argued that depending on the fee involved, Milan could sell and reinvest back into the squad to strengthen the group, while we may need a big sale this summer if we fail to qualify for the Champions League, which looks more than likely.

Conversely, having emerged as one of our most consistent and important players over the past two seasons, many will argue that Reijnders is the last player that we should be considering to let go, with other assets within the squad perhaps less reliable and too inconsistent.

Time will tell how the situation develops between now and the end of the season, but with no sporting director in place, question marks over whether or not Sergio Conceicao will still be our coach beyond this season and now doubts emerging over the future of one of our top players, there are some critical decisions ahead for the club and it’s hoped the right ones are made to ensure we’re more competitive moving forward.
