Potential €25m exit collapses as Milan ace rejects move

AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has reportedly rejected a move to Como, thus seeing a €25m transfer collapse.

The 23-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Schalke in 2022, and he has since gone on to make 85 appearances for the club.

With a contract that runs until June 2027, Milan are in a strong position to dictate our own transfer position when it comes to his future, and according to Fabrizio Romano, a €25m deal had been agreed with Como to sell the German centre-half.

However, he adds that Thiaw has rejected a move to our Serie A rivals, and so in turn talks between the two clubs are now over.

Time will tell if another interested club comes forward with a proposal that satisfies Milan’s demands and opens up the opportunity to discuss personal terms with Thiaw, but for now, it remains a waiting game to determine his future.

Given the Rossoneri’s openness to sell though, it would seem as though the defender doesn’t have a place with us under Massimiliano Allegri, who will be working meticulously alongside sporting director Igli Tare to build a squad that suits his ideas and demands.

That potential €25m windfall from a Thiaw sale would likely have been reinvested straight back into the squad, and so it’s a blow from a transfer strategy perspective in giving us further flexibility and spending power to go out and sign our preferred target.

Given our limited options in central defence though in the current squad, should Thiaw get a move elsewhere this summer still, that will certainly be a void that we must fill in this transfer window, and so it will be interesting to see if the pieces fall into place to allow Allegri to continue to mould the squad into his own.

It’s been a busy transfer window already for Milan and speculation is rife over both more incomings and outgoings in the coming weeks, and so it will be fascinating to see what the squad looks like come the start of the new season, with Thiaw perhaps unlikely to be part of it with major doubts over his future despite this move collapsing.
