Medical timeframe touted as Milan look to secure crucial signing

AC Milan transfer target Luka Modric will reportedly undergo his medical after the Club World Cup with Real Madrid.

The 39-year-old is set to bring an end to a trophy-laden spell with the Spanish giants this summer when his contract expires, and the Rossoneri are said to have agreed on terms to bring him to the San Siro for the next chapter of his career.

With his experience, leadership and quality all still on display at the highest level, it could prove to be a crucial signing for Milan as we enter a new era with a rebuild under Massimiliano Allegri.

The Italian tactician will likely want Modric at his disposal as soon as possible, but as per Gianluca Di Marzio, the Croatian stalwart will undergo his medical after the Club World Cup.

The tournament runs from June 15 to July 13, and so it remains to be seen how far Real Madrid advance as that will ultimately dictate when Modric is available to complete his medical and finalise his move to Milan.

After Tijjani Reijnders’ move to Manchester City was confirmed and with Yunus Musah on the verge of joining Napoli, it appears as though our midfield will be a point of focus this summer as we rebuild and hopefully raise the level of the options available to Allegri.

Modric would certainly help with that as he can lead by example on and off the pitch, and so it’s hoped that although it isn’t ideal that we will have to wait until next month to complete his signing and integrate him into the squad, we ultimately make the deal official sooner rather than later to ensure that he will arrive ahead of a big season for the club next year.

Making so many changes in one go can be destabilising, and so adding stalwarts like Modric who have experienced winning cultures and will demand the best from those around him, could be integral to making next season a much better one than the last.
