Contract offer terms touted as Milan look to land important signing

AC Milan are reportedly prepared to offer Luka Modric a one-year contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

The 39-year-old will end a trophy-laden spell with Real Madrid at the end of the month when his contract expires, but his illustrious career is expected to go on.

Despite his age, the Croatian midfielder made 57 appearances across all competitions this past season, scoring four goals and providing nine assists, while still having an important influence in the heart of the side on a consistent basis.

With Tijjani Reijnders on the verge of leaving to join Manchester City, a midfield reinforcement will certainly be needed, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Milan are pushing to bring in Modric this month.

He reports that the Rossoneri are set to offer him a one-year contract worth €3.5m plus bonuses, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.

Should that prove to be accurate, it remains to be seen if that’s enough to convince Modric to join us, as the expectation is that a player of his quality, experience and class will have multiple options on the table.

Milan will have to be careful this summer as too many changes could lead to instability and an element of chaos as we try to bring in too many reinforcements and rebuild given it’s likely that there will be multiple exits in the coming weeks and months.

With that in mind, a player of Modric’s eternal class and experience could be such a vital influence and presence in our midfield, as he is more than capable of being a leadership figure for his teammates while setting the tone and tempo with his technical ability and tireless work-ethic.

Although it’s certainly more of a short-term fix, it could be a crucial addition to the Milan squad to help Allegri implement his ideas and style with this new group, and so the hope is that if Modric is a priority for all concerned, we’re able to get this one over the line in the coming days.
