Milan grow confident of sealing signing of top-class stalwart

AC Milan are reportedly confident of completing the free transfer signing of Luka Modric in the next 48 hours.

Despite being in the latter stages of his career, the 39-year-old continued to show his class this past season, making 57 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid.

With four goals and nine assists to go with his overall influence in midfield, the Croatian icon is set for a new chapter in his illustrious career this summer as his contact with the La Liga giants will expire at the end of this month.

After a trophy-laden stint at the Bernabeu where he has been a fundamental presence in their recent success, coupled with his exploits at international level having firmly established himself as a great of the game, Modric will feel as though he has plenty left to offer, and it could be on show at Milan next season.

According to Sky Sport, the Rossoneri are confident that a deal can be done to sign Modric in the next 48 hours, as the world-class stalwart is said to be completely open to the move and will join on a free transfer.

It’s a critical summer for Milan given our bitterly disappointing season last year, coupled with the major changes being made at the club with Igli Tare being appointed as our new sporting director, while Massimiliano Allegri has returned for a second stint at the helm.

The pair will be busy moulding the squad into their own to suit Allegri’s preferred system and style of play, and with the experience, leadership, quality and class that Modric can still bring to the table, he could now be a fundamental presence in the side next season as part of our rebuild.

Particularly with Tijjani Reinjders closing in on an exit to join Manchester City, we’ll have a major void to fill in our midfield, and it could be Modric who provides an ideal solution in the short-term future at least, if a move is completed as touted in the report above.
