Milan close in on pivotal signing as talks advance to address key issue

AC Milan are reportedly closing in on the signing of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee to secure a crucial addition to the squad.

The 23-year-old impressed last season having scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 37 appearance for the Rossoblu, helping them secure Champions League qualification in a superb achievement for the club.

That in turn has unsurprisingly attracted interest from elsewhere, including from Milan, and it’s now suggested that the Rossoneri are making significant progress in landing his signature this summer.

According to Antonio Vitiello, the latest round of talks have moved the respective parties closer to reaching an agreement on personal terms and commission for his representatives, with Milan expected to trigger the Dutch forward’s €40m release clause in his current Bologna contract.

That in turn will pave the way for him to make the switch to San Siro, with Milan looking to fill a huge void up top after Olivier Giroud’s departure this summer.

Not only did the French stalwart score crucial goals consistently, but he was a fundamental focal point in leading the line, and so if Milan intend to play a similar style and set up in a familiar structure under Stefano Pioli’s successor, Zirkzee will be a vital signing to give us that option in the final third.

It’s a huge summer for the club given the outgoings and uncertainty that comes with a new coach and his ideas, and so our recruitment has to be spot on in order to give him the talent to help us become more competitive and challenge for major honours next season and beyond.

At 23 years of age and with a bright future ahead for both club and country, Zirkzee will hopefully form an important part of our long-term planning and hope for success, provided that agreements can be reached across the board and he becomes one of our marquee signings in this summer transfer window as touted.
