Milan must increase initial offer in bid to land key transfer target

AC Milan will reportedly need to return with an increased offer if we are to prise Javi Guerra away from Valencia this summer.

The 22-year-old was a pivotal figure for the La Liga side last season, making 38 appearances while scoring three goals and providing three assists along with his overall influence and impact in midfield.

Given the Rossoneri have seen Tijjani Reijnders depart this summer, there is a void to fill in our midfield ahead of next season, and it appears as though the Spain U21s international is emerging as our priority target at this stage.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have submitted an offer for the Spaniard worth €16m plus €4m in bonuses, but that doesn’t appear to be enough to convince Valencia to part with their prized asset.

In turn, it’s suggested that we’ll have to return with an improved offer in order to land our transfer target, with the report noting that discussions over an exit for Guerra last summer were based on a €25m valuation.

Time will tell if Milan are prepared to go higher to get their man, or if this ultimately deters us and forces us to look at alternative options, as with speculation rife over the future of Yunus Musah this summer too, we could be in need of multiple signings in midfield to help Massimiliano Allegri rebuild his midfield.

The Italian tactician will have clear ideas on what he wants to implement in his second spell in charge, in terms of identity, system and style of play. The club must therefore back him in the transfer market to deliver the players who can help him successfully execute the plan and process, and Guerra could be a key piece in the Milan boss’s thinking.

Changes are certainly needed ahead of next season given our shortcomings last year, and it remains to be seen if Guerra is part of that rebuild.
