One out, one in: Milan line up duo as potential targets in case of exit

AC Milan have reportedly identified two potential transfer targets to bolster our defence in case there is an exit in that department this summer.

The Rossoneri are undergoing significant changes after the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri, as we look to build a squad suited to his ideas and style of play.

In turn, speculation has been rife over possible outgoings and incomings with Tijjani Reijnders’ departure the only notable confirmed move thus far, but there could also be changes in defence ahead of next season too.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have set their sights on Parma’s Giovanni Leoni or Fiorentina centre-half Pietro Comuzzo as a potential defensive reinforcement in the event that we see one of our current options move on.

It’s added that Leoni is considered to be the top option on the list, and so it remains to be seen if the club launch a bid to sign him if we agree to let one of our current players leave in the coming weeks.

Allegri is currently able to call upon Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori to play in the heart of our backline, and so it will be interesting to see if the Milan boss feels as though any of that quartet don’t fit his identity or way of playing moving forward and we try to offload them.

Leoni, 18, and Comuzzo, 20, have emerged as top prospects as the defensive duo both made a really positive impression last season, and it would certainly be refreshing to see Milan invest in Italian youth to rebuild this squad and hopefully bring us long-term success.

In turn, there is a sense of hope that we do look to reshuffle things and build a stronger defensive unit with young players that Allegri can help develop and improve after being far too porous at the back last season, but as per the report above, time will tell if the pieces fall into place for it to happen, starting with exits to raise funds and make space in the squad for any new arrivals.
