Milan keen on double swoop to bolster two key areas of Fonseca’s squad

AC Milan are reportedly edging ever closer to reaching an agreement to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham, while our interest in Roma striker Tammy Abraham remains.

The right-back position has seemingly been one of the priorities for Paulo Fonseca this summer, as speculation has continued to link us with a move to bring in a reinforcement for that role this summer.

Particularly after Alessandro Florenzi’s injury in pre-season, it is likely to have become a more pressing matter with the new campaign edging closer, as we certainly need to add competition and depth alongside the likes of Davide Calabria.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri are closing in on the signing of Emerson, as there is now only a small distance between the two clubs on the transfer fee. It’s reported that while Milan are offering €14m plus €4m in add-ons, Tottenham want €15m and €5m in add-ons to green light a sale, and so time will tell if a compromise will be reached or not.

Based on the touted difference though, it seems as though it’s merely a matter of time before a breakthrough is made in talks, and we’ll hopefully have another defensive reinforcement arrive this summer to add to the expected acquisition of Strahinja Pavlovic this week.

Meanwhile, Di Marzio goes on to add that although no further talks have taken place, Milan remain interested in Abraham, and so it remains to be seen if we step up our pursuit in the coming days and weeks to bolster our attacking options.

Fonseca has seen Alvaro Morata added to his squad in a fundamental signing given the glaring issue we had up top after the departure of Olivier Giroud, but depth will surely be needed this season as we look to compete for silverware both domestically and in Europe.

Luka Jovic and Francesco Camarda are seemingly set to provide back-up to Morata as things stand, but with Jovic’s limited impact and Camarda’s inexperience at senior level, a reshuffle in that department could be a smart move from the club.

Abraham has had injury troubles at Roma over the past year or so, but since joining them from Chelsea, he’s scored 37 goals and provided 13 assists in 119 appearances, and at 26 years of age, he still has a long way to go in his career and can certainly continue to develop and improve his game.

If Fonseca believes that he could be a better fit for his way of playing and preferred system, it’s hoped Milan can act to make the necessary changes and make us as competitive as possible this year.
