Influential Milan ace remains on transfer radar of Euro giants

AC Milan star Rafael Leao is reportedly still on the transfer radar of Bayern Munich this summer.

The 26-year-old had a disappointing season last year, as although 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances appear to be relatively decent tallies, it was nowhere near enough from a player who is supposedly the talisman of this team.

Leao has lacked the consistency and necessary quality to take that next step in his career, and coupled with the poor level of performance around him as we struggled as a team, it was a bitterly frustrating campaign in which we came up short across the board.

In turn, the decision was made to make big changes this summer, and in have come Igli Tare as sporting director and Massimiliano Allegri as our new coach.

With that will come changes to the squad too, and although speculation has been rife over the past fortnight or so linking Milan with incomings and outgoings aplenty, it seems as though Leao isn’t immune from the rumours.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have held internal discussions over the possibility of moving for the Portuguese international, and although there are no talks or offers as of yet, it seems as though Leao could become a real target for the Bavarian giants at some point later this summer.

While Tijjani Reijnders has already left the Rossoneri, Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Yunus Musah and others have been linked with an exit, and so it remains to be seen how the squad starts to shape up when we take into consideration who we lose this summer.

Leao is more than capable of being the leading figure in this team if he’s able to rediscover his best form and continues to take his game forward under Allegri with the right mentality and desire to develop and improve, but he’s had ample time to reach that elite level and he hasn’t yet done so.

In turn, it could be argued that if Bayern are willing to put a signifiant offer on the table, Milan should give it strong consideration, and target a top player as a replacement with the financial strength and flexibility that exit would give us.

We’re still seemingly far off that decision being made, but it will be one that has a major impact on everything that follows.
