Milan close in on potential double signing as progress made in talks

AC Milan are reportedly advancing in talks over the signings of Young Boys defender Zachary Athekame and Club Brugge midfielder Ardon Jashari.

The Rossoneri have been busy this summer already as Massimiliano Allegri moulds the squad into his own, and with that process has come significant turnover in players with a number of incomings and outgoings.

His work is far from done it seems too, as according to Fabrizio Romano, Milan have now sent a new bid to Young Boys in our attempt to prise right-back Athekame away from the Swiss side, as he adds that the offer is now worth €8m plus add-ons, while the agreement is said to be in the final stages.

Further, Antonio Vitiello reports that a deal is also now being finalised for Jashari, as further talks were held between the two clubs on Monday and it would appear as though a breakthrough has finally been found after what has been a lengthy pursuit of the midfielder so far this summer.

Provided that the reporting is accurate, that would be two more positions addressed by the Rossoneri in this summer transfer window, with Athekame potentially offering us a long-term solution at right-back, while Jashari would join Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric in the rebuild of our midfield.

Given the number of alternative options already at Allegri’s disposal in those roles, the expectation is that should Milan wrap up deals for the pair, there will likely be further exits to make space in the squad and help balance our books, and so with the new Serie A season fast approaching, we can seemingly expect plenty more movement in the transfer market between now and then.

Off the back of a bitterly disappointing campaign, it was always going to be important that Milan backed Allegri and allowed him to transform this squad to suit his ideas, style of play and system.

With the transfer work continuing and led by sporting director Igli Tare, it’s hoped that we’ve identified the right profile of players to address those needs, and ultimately it has to translate into results on the pitch when the season gets underway to ensure that we’re significantly more competitive than last year.

At 20 and 23 years of age respectively, Athekame and Jashari would not only provide us with immediate reinforcements but long-term pieces too, and if they are now considered priority transfer targets for Allegri, it’s hoped that the club can secure deals for both as touted above.
