AC Milan are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Benfica defender Antonio Silva as Ruben Amorim continues to look to strengthen his squad.
The Rossoneri are rebuilding after appointing the Portuguese tactician earlier this month, following on from the disappointment of last season and Massimiliano Allegri’s subsequent departure.
Although not yet officially announced, it has been heavily reported that the club are set to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos in a big-money swoop to bolster our attack, but now it appears as though Amorim could be eyeing a reinforcement for his backline too.

According to Tuttosport, as reported by MilanNews, Silva has already agreed on personal terms and Milan are said to be edging closer to reaching an agreement with Benfica worth €20m plus €5m in bonuses.
Further, it’s suggested that the 22-year-old centre-half will sign a five-year deal worth just under €3m per year, and so with the numbers reported in such detail, it arguably gives the impression that this is certainly a pursuit to monitor moving forward.
Silva came through the youth ranks at Benfica and has gone on to make 181 appearances for the Portuguese giants at senior level, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists to go with his defensive work.
Further, he has been capped 20 times by Portugal already and so it would certainly appear as though he is not only already well established for club and country, but also that he has a bright future ahead of him still given he is only 22 years of age.
Naturally, there is always an element of uncertainty when it comes to any new signings, or potential new signings in this case, as it remains to be seen if it proves to be the right fit and that the player in question raises the level of the squad.
Importantly at this stage though, it seems as though Amorim is being backed to bring in the profile of player that he desires, and coincidentally or not both Silva and Ramos are Portuguese too, and so the club is hopefully aligned on the vision moving forward in terms of the identity and style of play he wants to implement.
Milan do have a number of centre-halves already at Amorim’s disposal, but he’ll no doubt assess all of his options in the coming weeks and determine who will be part of his plans, and which specific areas of the squad that he inherited requires attention this summer to improve it.
