Milan tipped to seal €13m signing in vital move to address key issue

AC Milan are reportedly set to secure the signing of Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth €13m.

The Spaniard led his national team to the EURO 2024 crown this past weekend, and it comes after a productive season with Atleti last year in which he scored 21 goals and provided five assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Morata has a wealth of experience after spells with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus too, while he’s bagged 36 goals in 80 caps for Spain.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the next stage of his career will come with us, as Milan are expected to trigger his €13m release clause, while personal terms have already been agreed as the Spanish international will put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

He adds that the formalities of the switch are likely to be completed this week, and so it will be the first pivotal signing for Paulo Fonseca following his appointment this summer.

Milan have a glaring void up front currently after Olivier Giroud’s departure, and there is a real lack of quality competition and depth too which must be addressed before the start of the new campaign, and so Morata may not be the last to arrive in that department.

Should his move go through as expected, Morata will be a vital solution for the new Milan boss, and he’ll likely have had a key influence in the decision to sign him if he fits his ideas and style of play more effectively than other possible options.

It’s been slow going from a Rossoneri perspective in the transfer market thus far, and it has caused concern given we do need to improve the level of the squad to become more competitive this year.

Hopefully we’re now on the verge of fixing one major issue with Morata adding firepower and a focal point up top, and that will likely be followed by more new signings in the coming weeks to prepare us for a crucial season in which Fonseca will look to prove he was the right man for the job.
