Talks ongoing as Milan look to reach deal to sign loanee on permanent basis

AC Milan are reportedly looking to reach an agreement with Roma that would make the loan swap for Tammy Abraham and Alexis Saelemaekers a permanent switch.

The two clubs agreed deals last summer which saw Abraham join us on a season-long loan move, while Saelemaekers moved in the opposite direction on the same terms.

Abraham, 27, has since gone on to score six goals and provide four assists in 20 appearances for us, including the winner in our Italian Super Cup triumph over Inter earlier this week.

In turn, it’s no real surprise then that Milan are keen to acquire him on a permanent basis as he provides competition and depth up front, and according to Matteo Moretto, talks are ongoing between the two clubs to find an agreement to swap the two players outright.

No deal has yet been struck as it seemingly hinges on a fee being included on one side to balance the valuations of the two players, and so time will tell if they get a deal done in the January transfer window.

While Milan do also have Alvaro Morata and Luka Jovic on the books currently, it’s unclear at this stage if a permanent swoop for Abraham means Jovic could be offloaded, as although we’re competing on multiple fronts, that seems an unnecessary amount of competition to have on the books for one position.

Conversely, if an agreement can’t be reached to sign Abraham, it remains to be seen if we look elsewhere to strengthen in that department, or if it’s very much Abraham that we want to fill that role.

A lot will also depend on Sergio Conceicao’s preference for the second half of the campaign as he looks to build on a successful start to his tenure, and hopefully the club is able to give him the required tools to do that by backing him this month to bring in the reinforcements he needs, while balancing that with exits.
