Exit talks dismissed as Milan look to reach key renewal agreement

Speculation linking Theo Hernandez with an exit from AC Milan to join Bayern Munich have been dismissed, as renewal talks continue.

The 26-year-old has firmly established himself as a pivotal figure for the Rossoneri since he arrived in 2019, as he has since gone on to make 212 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 39 assists to go with his defensive work.

Naturally, there have been dips in his form at times, and as his role has evolved and he’s become a more senior and influential leadership figure in the squad, more is always expected of him with the standards set so high.

Despite perhaps not only always reaching that level of consistency, Hernandez remains a pivotal player in the current Milan XI, and so it’s hoped that we aren’t tasked with having to find a replacement for him this summer.

According to MilanNews, there are no negotiations taking place between Milan and Bayern over the French international despite rumours from Spain suggesting otherwise.

Further, it’s added that while the Rossoneri value Hernandez at €100m, which in itself should act as a significant deterrent for any interested parties, the club is continuing discussions over a contract renewal. However, although Hernandez’s current deal runs until 2026, he may well be seeking a significant increase in salary to pen a fresh agreement.

It remains to be seen if the situation changes if those renewal talks don’t progress, but it’s imperative that the club do their utmost to convince him to sign and commit his long-term future.

Conversely, it could be argued that if Milan were to receive such a huge fee for Hernandez, it would give us real flexibility this summer to bring in reinforcements and strengthen the squad as a whole.

That said, big changes are expected at Milan this summer as Stefano Pioli is set to take charge of his final game this weekend against Salernitana, and regardless of who his successor is, they will likely be eager to work with Hernandez and make him a key member of their squad moving forward.
