No progress touted in crucial contract talks with key Milan figure

AC Milan have reportedly made no progress over a contract extension for Theo Hernandez over the past few months.

The 27-year-old’s current deal runs until June 2026, and so the Rossoneri will be under increasing pressure to either secure his long-term future, or move him on before the threat of losing him for nothing starts to become a realistic concern.

In turn, a decision over his future is expected to be taken this summer amid speculation over possible transfer interest as well as putting pen to paper on a new contract, but it’s been suggested that Milan have made no concrete steps forward for some time now in discussions.

As reported by MilanNews, via TeleLombardia, Milan haven’t presented an official contract offer to Hernandez, and there has been no contact between the two parties in relation to the matter for at least three or four months.

That is a concerning development if accurate, as there is a major summer ahead for the club, and progress needs to start being made on key issues to help us bounce back from what has been a disappointing and underwhelming campaign on the whole this season.

Hernandez has gone on to make 261 appearances for the Rossoneri since joining us in 2019, scoring 34 goals and providing 45 assists to go with his defensive work, and so he’s been a pillar of the side over the past few years.

Some may well argue that we should cash in on him now while we can and reinvest back into the squad, while others will no doubt be desperate to see him remain for years to come as one of our top performers in recent times.

Either way, with changes expected at Milan this summer at management level and with question marks still hanging over Sergio Conceicao as to whether he’ll still be our coach next season, time is rapidly passing, and if the decision taken by the hierarchy is to wait until the current season concludes, we must be in a position to move quickly on these critical matters when that time comes.

Hernandez may not be the only high-profile exit this summer either with transfer talk linking other key individuals with interest from elsewhere, and while it’s hoped we can finish the season on a high by winning the Coppa Italia and somehow sneaking into the top four in the Serie A table to qualify for the Champions League, the reported lack of intent and urgency behind the scenes at the club will continue to be a concern.
