AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez is reportedly keen to renew his contract with the club, but it remains to be seen if an agreement is reached.
The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until 2026, and after joining the Rossoneri in 2019, he has gone on to firmly establish himself as a pivotal figure in the side having made 212 appearances.

Coupled with his defensive work, the French international has contributed 29 goals and 39 assists, and so as he continues to provide a crucial attacking dynamic to our play too, it’s vital that we keep him in the squad.
Time will tell if that materialises though, as amid speculation over his future in recent weeks, Daniele Longo reports Hernandez wants to renew with Milan, but he’s looking for a salary increase which would see him earn over €7m-per-year.
It remains to be seen if that falls within Milan’s budget or not, as ultimately if that is well above what the club is willing to offer, that could further fuel exit talk by raising question marks over his future with us.
Off the back of an underwhelming campaign, important changes are expected at Milan this summer, and so time will tell how that impacts the make up of this squad by the end of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Given his importance to the side, it would of course be ideal if Hernandez renewed and committed his future to the Rossoneri, but ultimately we’re seemingly still some way off that happening.
Further, although he still has two years to run on his current agreement anyway, signing a renewal wouldn’t necessarily rule out a departure, as the new deal could include a release clause or an understanding that it strengthens Milan’s position to demand a higher fee from an interested party.
In turn, we’ll await further news on the situation in the coming weeks, but it’s fundamental that although change is needed at Milan this summer to improve us, we must be careful not to lose too many key pieces at the same time that will make the job of whoever is in charge next season all the more difficult.
